Stories Told Counseling, LLC
My approach to a therapeutic relationship is rooted in respect, curiosity, trust, and genuine care. I believe my clients are the experts in their own lives and that all behaviors, feelings, and thoughts make sense when they are put into context. My role is to facilitate insights, self-compassion, and the accrual of healthy skills and coping mechanisms. While psychotherapy can be quite heavy and does require work, I strive to make sessions engaging, dynamic, and enjoyable. Together, we can make room to not only address life’s challenges but also highlight successes.
Although I find common themes in my work with clients, I do not use a one-size-fits-all method. Individuals of all races, genders, abilities, religions, and sizes are celebrated here and cultural responsiveness is my priority. I pull from many different therapeutic modalities, including Relational, Psychodynamic, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapies. I also use elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and others.
My undergraduate degree is in sociology and I obtained my MSW from Boston University. In graduate school I specialized in trauma and interpersonal violence, including training at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center where I worked with countless survivors of sexual violence. In 2019 I began working at the Boston Medical Center Outpatient Psychiatry Department where I provided individual therapy for adults with a wide range of diagnoses. While there, I served on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and ran two different therapeutic groups, one centered on pregnancy and infant loss and the other women’s support. Previous clients have shared that, through our work together, they felt consistently understood, gained a healthier, more loving relationship with themselves, and experienced a reduction in mental health symptoms.
